01 Feb Don’t Tax My Health Benefits – Your Action is Required
UPDATE: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has confirmed that the federal government will not tax health and dental benefits. Thank you to everyone who took action and contacted their MPs on this issue!
The Federal Government is considering taxing your health and dental benefit plans, which would cost many families hundreds of dollars per year.
In the early 1990s, Quebec started to tax workplace benefits. Following this, a significant number of Quebec employers dropped their plans. About 20% of Quebec workers and their family members lost their health insurance coverage. If the experience in Quebec is a guide, the taxation of workplace benefits could result in between 4 and 5 million Canadians losing their current health insurance coverage.
The Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association believes that the government does not intend to hold consultations on this issue and may introduce this new tax as early as the Spring 2017 budget.
We need three minutes of your time to tell the government that we do not support this tax.
